Meet The Author

Following a 30-year career as an engineer and college professor, Kimball Loomis became passionate about historical research. She has taken more than 20 trips across the United States and Europe to dig deep into historical archives, museum collections, personal papers, letters, and photographs, to understand history through the lens of familial relations.

Kim holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Denver and a master’s degree from Colorado State University. She has taken numerous writing classes and workshops through the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She participated in a writing retreat with author Pam Houston, Turning the Physical World into a Story, in 2020, and a writing workshop through the White Bear Lake Center for the Arts, in 2021. As a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the Minnesota and New Hampshire Historical Societies, and the Military Writers Society of America, Kim champions the value in keeping history alive.

Kim and her husband split their time between White Bear Lake, Minnesota and Tucson, Arizona. She nurtures extensive gardens in both locations but dedicates the bulk of her time researching and writing to grow a greater appreciation for what the past can teach us.
